Problem Note 53770: An orphaned gridrun.exe process occurs when users close a SAS® Enterprise Guide® session that is running in a SAS® grid environment
If all users but one terminate their connection with SAS Workspace Server through SAS Enterprise Guide, an orphaned gridrun.exe process remains for each user who terminates their connection.
A gridrun.exe process is created for every active SAS Enterprise Guide user connection to enable the Load Sharing Facility (LSF) to launch the SAS Workspace Server under the identity of the client.
For example, client SASTS1 connects to a SAS Enterprise Guide client and launches SAS Workspace Server, which creates a gridrun.exe process. If client SASTS2 opens and connects to a second SAS Enterprise Guide client, the same gridrun.exe process for SASTS1 is used to launch a SAS Workspace Server. If client SASTS2 disconnects from SAS Enterprise Guide, the connection to SAS Workspace Server for SASTS2 closes, but the gridrun.exe process continues to run. If SASTS2 reconnects to the SAS Enterprise Guide client, the same gridrun.exe process is used.
