Problem Note 53287: Using the $VARYING. format in a LINE statement in PROC REPORT might generate more output than you expect in the LISTING destination
When you use the $VARYING. format in a LINE statement in the REPORT procedure, fewer detail lines might be generated per page in the output that you send to the LISTING destination. This behavior might cause the output to be much longer than it was in earlier SAS® releases. This problem is more likely to occur when multiple LINE statements contain the $VARYING. format.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
The hot fix causes the number of rows on each page of the LISTING output to be consistent. This is a change in behavior from SAS® 9.2 and SAS® 9.3, where the use of the $VARYING. format might have produced a different number of detail rows on each page. The new behavior is in effect after you apply the hot fix.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
In the REPORT procedure, you can use the $VARYING. format in LINE statements to conditionally hide a line, which might produce fewer detail lines per page. As a result, when you send output to the LISTING destination, the number of pages of output might increase.
