Installation Note 49775: Required manual steps for upgrading to JBoss Application Server (AS) 7.1 with SAS® 9.3 (TS1M2)

Important:

  • As a prerequisite to this note, you should read and understand SAS Note 49296, "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2."
  • If you plan to upgrade to Java 7 and, therefore, to JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final, you must be able to perform the steps that are required for this manual configuration.

    Note: Upgrading to JBoss Application Server 7.1.1.Final (Community version) is required when you upgrade to Java 7.

  • You should also read and understand SAS Note 50062, "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 Enterprise BI Server requires an upgrade of the web application server where SAS® web applications are deployed."
  • SAS will continue to support SAS 9.3 Enterprise BI Server software using Java 6 on the supported versions of the JBoss Application Server, as specified on the third-party support page "SAS® 9.3 Support for Web Application Servers and HTTP Servers."
  • The SAS® Deployment Wizard does not automatically configure JBoss 7.1.1.Final. Currently, manual configuration is time-consuming and prone to errors. Therefore, SAS Technical Support strongly recommends that you work with SAS Professional Services to accomplish this configuration.

In the second maintenance release for SAS 9.3 (TS1M2), JBoss AS 7.1 is supported with Java 7. However, the SAS Deployment Wizard does not automatically configure JBoss AS 7.1.1. Currently, there are two options depending on whether you plan to upgrade an existing SAS 9.3 installation with JBoss AS 7.1 or install a new SAS 9.3 installation using JBoss AS 7.1.

The document "Updating an Existing SAS® 9.3 Enterprise BI Server (TS1M2) Deployment to Use JBoss Application Server 7.1" was written with the intention that customers already have SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) installed with JBoss AS 5.1.0.GA. Nonetheless, the manual configuration is the same using either option, and the current document provides the steps that are required if you perform a new installation of SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) with JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final.
