Usage Note 49388: Graphics output might not be sent to the desired location beginning with SAS® 9.3

DetailsAboutRate It

Beginning with SAS 9.3, SAS now enables the HTML destination by default and disables the Listing destination. These changes are documented in SAS Note 42874.

Because of these changes, if you are using a SAS/GRAPH® device driver without ODS, the device driver no longer sends its graph output to the desired location. In most cases, the graphics output is displayed in the Results Viewer window in SAS, even though you might want to only write a PNG, GIF, JPEG, EMF, or CGM file to disk.

In most situations, the following warning message will be written to the SAS log:

WARNING: Unsupported device 'driver-name' for HTML destination. Using default device 'PNG'.

To circumvent the problem, add the following statements to the beginning of your SAS code:

ods _all_ close;
ods listing;

These two statements close any open ODS destinations and then opens the Listing destination, which is the default destination prior to SAS 9.3.
