Problem Note 48830: The Variable Selection node results might not include all significant variables

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

The Variable Selection node in SAS® Enterprise Miner™ quickly identifies input variables that are useful for predicting the target variable or variables. The Input role is assigned to these variables. However, significant variables might be incorrectly assigned a Rejected role.

There are no errors or warnings to indicate that a significant variable was incorrectly rejected.

To determine whether the problem occurred, open the Variable Selection node Results window. Compare the results in the Output panel to the results in the Variable Selection panel. The Variable Selection panel shows which role is assigned to each variable. The Output panel shows the p-value for each variable. If a variable is assigned a Rejected role, but the variable's p-value satisfies the significance criteria, then the problem occurred.

To work around the problem, change the role from Rejected to Input for any variable that satisfies the significance criteria. To change the role, add a Metadata node after the Variable Selection node. In the Metadata node, select the Variables - Train property. In the Variables - Metadata window, change the New Role to Input for the desired variables.
