Problem Note 48597: The Hebrew date formats HDATE and HEBDATE cause transcoding errors when used with the Japanese version of SAS® Enterprise Guide® 4.3
When you use SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3 to connect to a Japanese SAS server and choose HDATE or HEBDATE in the data properties in the Query Builder (and possibly in other places where you can apply data formats), this error with a pop window might occur:
SAS Enterprise Guide has encountered a problem. We recommend that you save your work and restart SAS Enterprise Guide.
More details show if you check the Show Details box:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException
<?xml version="1.0" ?><Exceptions><Exception><SASMessage severity="Error">Failed to transcode data from U_SHIFT_JIS_CE to U_UTF8_CE encoding because it contained characters which are not supported by your SAS '
session encoding. Please review your encoding= and locale= SAS system options to ensure that they
can accommodate the data that you want to process.
The problem occurs because HDATE or HEBDATE formats require Hebrew encoding, which is not compatible with Japanese encoding.
The only workaround at this time is to not use Hebrew formats with a Japanese SAS server.
Note: A similar problem might occur when you use SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3 with Chinese or Korean SAS servers.
