Problem Note 48126: PROC MIXED might issue the message "integer overflow on computing amount of memory required" unnecessarily
PROC MIXED might generate the following error message:
ERROR: Integer overflow on computing amount of memory required. A request to allocate the memory cannot be honored.
This problem can occur for various reasons. One specific situation is when the OUTP= or OUTPM= option is specified in the MODEL statement and at least one of the following options is also specified:
- the RESIDUAL option in the MODEL statement
- the PLOTS=VCIRYPANEL option in the PROC MIXED statement
- the RESIDUAL option in the MODEL statement and the PLOTS=STUDENDPANEL option in the PROC MIXED statement
This error message is a result of computing a large quantity related to the maximum number of observations per subject.

Note that if none of the above conditions apply, it is still possible to encounter this error after the Hot Fix is applied.
