Problem Note 47348: Incomplete VMware host and guest machine names result when you use special characters or a hyphen in the machine names in SAS® IT Resource Management
When the SAS® IT Resource Management adapter for VMware vCenter software encounters the first character that is not alphanumeric in a host name or a guest name, the software truncates the VMware name starting at that special character. For example, suppose that you have a host or guest operating-system value that is derived from this text string:
abc_dr123.company.com
When this string is parsed and the underscore (_) is encountered, the content that is retained for the SAS IT Resource Management Host or Guest data columns is the portion before the underscore. Therefore, for the example above, the content that is retained is as follows:
abc
Machine names that contain a hyphen (-) also exhibit the behavior described in this note, even though those machine names are compliant with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) guidelines.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
Though the behavior described in this note is compliant with the IETF guidance on creating machine names, adjustments have been made to allow special characters in machines names in the latest hot fix for SAS IT Resource Management 3.3.
