In SAS Web Report Studio, linked crosstabulation tables can pass only formatted character values to character prompts in a target report. This rule means the following:
Note: If a format is not applied to the character data item in the source report, then, for linking purposes, the formatted values are considered to be the values that result from applying the default format. Often, the value displayed with the default format is the same as the unformatted value.
For example, say that you have applied a user-defined format to a Gender data item so that F displays as Female and M displays as Male. If the results are displayed in a crosstabulation table, then the clicked value (either Female or Male) is passed to the prompt for Gender in the target report. If the prompt in the target report can accept only the unformatted values (F or M), then no results are returned. In this example, in order for the prompt to correctly process the formatted value, you must use one of the workarounds in SAS Note 40276.
