Problem Note 44120: Assigning DBMS libraries might fail in SAS® Enterprise Guide®

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

Attempting to assign a database management system (DBMS) library in any SAS client using the META engine in SAS Enterprise Guide might result in the following error:

[Error] Failed to retrieve login credential from the authentication domain.

The problem occurs if the user does not have valid credentials to the authentication domain. The META engine requires a valid credential stored in metadata that is of the same authentication domain (AuthDomain) as the DBMS server definition if the authentication type of the DBMS server definition is set to User/Password. For example, if the Oracle server definition has the authentication domain "OraAuth" associated with it, a user accessing the server must have access to an "OraAuth" login credential. If there is not access to a credential that is of the same authentication domain as the DBMS server definition, the error occurs when you assign a DBMS library associated with the server.

The error might also occur in SAS Enterprise Guide if the following conditions are true:

  • The metadata server, workspace server, and DBMS server definitions all use the same AuthDomain (for example, DefaultAuth)
  • One DefaultAuth credential is used to authenticate to the metadata server, workspace server, and DBMS server
  • The credential is stored in the user's metadata profile without a password

To circumvent the problem in SAS Enterprise Guide, select Tools ► SAS Enterprise Guide Explorer and then select File ► Manage Logins. Highlight the User ID and select Modify. Enter the password and click OK.
