Problem Note 44510: The SAS® Universal Viewer 1.3 and earlier versions do not copy column headings when you copy and paste the entire data set into Microsoft Excel
In SAS Universal Viewer 1.3 or earlier versions, if you try to copy an entire SAS data set and then paste it into Excel, the column headings do not show up. Only the data are displayed. You can then manually type the column headings in Excel.
Or, you can install SAS® Universal Viewer 1.4 or a later version.
SAS Universal Viewer 1.4 and later versions have new functionality and you can toggle this feature on or off. To accomplish that, take these steps:
- Open SAS Universal Viewer 1.4 or higher and select Tools ► Options. On the Global tab, select Include headers when copying table selections.
- Close SAS Universal Viewer.
- Re-open SAS Universal Viewer and open a SAS data set.
- Click on the box in the upper left-hand corner of the table to highlight the entire table.
- Right-click on the highlighted table and choose Copy.
- In Excel, right-click an empty cell and paste in the contents of the SAS data set. Verify that the column headings are included.
Note: If you deselect the option Include headers when copying table selections, then you need to restart SAS Universal Viewer for this new setting to take effect.
