Installation Note 44102: Installing SAS® Foundation 9.3 (TS1M0) and SAS® Enterprise Guide® 4.3 in Windows operating environments (planned installations only)
If you have a planned-installation package and you intend to install SAS Foundation 9.3 (TS1M0) and SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3 for local use only, be aware that there is no sample plan file for performing this installation. To install SAS Foundation 9.3 (TS1M0) and SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3, use one of the following methods:
- Use the Install SAS Foundation and Related Software Button
- Use the Install Additional Software Button
Notes: These two installation methods are appropriate only if you want to install SAS Enterprise Guide on your local machine so that you can use the graphical user interface (GUI).
Use the Install SAS Foundation and Related Software Button
- Before you begin installing the SAS software, ensure that there are no antivirus or firewall services running on the machine. Check Windows Services by doing the following:
Select Start ► Run and type services.msc. For Windows 7, type services.msc in the Search programs and files search box.
Look for any antivirus software that is in a started state. Stop the services by clicking Stop in the upper left corner.
Some of the antivirus software programs that you might see under the Services window include but are not limited to Norton, Symantec, McAfee, Trend, Microsoft, VIPRE, Kaspersky, and AVG.
Here is an example of what you might see in the Services window. Note that there is usually one antivirus service that you are unable to stop. That is fine. The problem is if you cannot stop any of the services. In that case, contact your IT department to stop these for you while you are performing the installation. Alternatively, have an Administrator log on and do the installation for you.
- Start Windows Explorer. In the left navigation bar (see screen capture, below), select the DVD drive and locate the setup.exe file at the root. If you are on a Windows 7, Windows 2008, or Windows Vista operating system, right-click the setup.exe file and select Run as administrator. If you are on any other system, double-click setup.exe.
The SAS® Deployment Wizard 9.3 appears.
- Select the language in which you want to view the SAS Deployment Wizard (install) and click OK. The default is English.
- The Select Deployment Task dialog box appears. Select Install SAS Software to install SAS Foundation and SAS Enterprise Guide. Click Next.
- The Select SAS Software Order dialog box is displayed if you have more than one order in your SAS Software Depot. Select your SAS software order from the list and then verify the specific items in the SAS Products to Install text box. Click Next.
- In the SAS Deployment Type dialog box, select Install SAS Foundation and Related Software—not the Perform a Planned Deployment option. A planned-installation package defaults to Perform a Planned Deployment. Click Next.
- In the Select Products to Install dialog box, click Clear All and then select the check boxes for SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Foundation. Alternatively, instead of clicking Clear All, you can click Next to install the most common software.
- If you have a depot with multiple orders, including both 32-bit and 64-bit orders, the Select SAS Foundation Mode dialog box during the installation process. In that case, select 64-bit Native Mode. For more information, click the Help button
and/or see Installation Note 41277, "Determining whether to install SAS® Foundation software in 64-bit native mode or in 32-bit compatibility mode."
- In the Select SAS Foundation Products dialog box, either leave the defaults that are checked or select the specific SAS Foundation products that you want to install. Click Next to continue.
- Select the appropriate SAS installation data file (SID file) and click Next (the default is usually correct).
- In the Select Language Support dialog box, all of the languages are selected by default. For English only, click Clear All and Next.
- In the SAS Environments URL dialog box, click Next or specify the SAS Environments URL. For more information, click the Help button or see the SAS Intelligence Platform: Middle-Tier Administration Guide.
- In the Checking System dialog box, do not click Next. Once the installation runs through the loading installation package, it automatically proceeds to the next Checking System dialog box.
- Here, the system verifies the amount of free disk space and verifies that the files and directories can be written to. Click Next. For additional details, see Installation Note 43610, "The disk space requirement for SAS® Deployment Wizard might not be accurate for the SAS® 9.3 Foundation installation under Microsoft Windows."
- In the Deployment Summary dialog box, click Start to begin the installation process.
- The Deployment in Progress dialog box appears.
- When the Deployment Complete dialog box appears, click Next.
- In the Select Support Option dialog box, the default is Do Not Send. Either click
Next to accept the default or else select the Send option to provide the information to SAS and then click Next.
- In the Additional Resources dialog box, you can print this screen or click the links
to see the pages. Click Finish when you are done.
- If you encounter problems during the installation process, send the following logs (if they exist) to SAS Technical Support. (See the SAS Technical Support Services and Policies Web page for contact information. Your logs will be reviewed and a response sent to you within 24 hours.
- deploywiz.log, SDWPREFS.txt, SDW.log, and SDM.log from C:\Users\userid_that_performed_the_installation\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\ or from C:\Documents and Settings\userid_that_performed_the_installation\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\.
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\InstallMisc\InstallLogs\IT_date-time-stamp.log (for example: IT_2011-01-24-14.36.09.log).
- Select Start ► Run and type msinfo32.exe.
- When the system information appears, select File ► Save and type system for the name and then send the system.nfo file that is created.
