Usage Note 43157: Capturing debugging messages from SAS® Management Console

DetailsAboutRate It

To generate debug-level logs for SAS Management Console:

  1. Close any SAS Management Console sessions that are currently open.
  2. Add the following options to the end of the MainClass=com.sas.console.visuals.MainConsole line in the sasmc.ini file:
    -debug –serverlog

    By default, the sasmc.ini file is located in the Windows folder C:\Program Files\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.x. In UNIX and Linux operating environments, the path is SASHOME/SASManagementConsole/9.x.

    After you add the options that are noted previously, the line in the file should be similar in appearance to the following example:

    MainClass=com.sas.console.visuals.MainConsole -debug –serverlog
  3. Open a SAS Management Console session and re-create the issue. Then, immediately close the SAS Management Console session.

In Microsoft Windows operating environments, the addition of the options listed earlier produces a log file named SASMCErrorLog.txt, which enables debug-level logging in your C:\Users\your-user-ID\AppData\Roaming\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.x\ folder. For earlier versions of Microsoft Windows, this file might be located in your C:\Documents and Settings\user-ID\Application Data\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.x\ folder. In UNIX and Linux operating environments, the path is ~/.SASAppData/SASManagementConsole/9.x/.
