Problem Note 41058: Unable to submit X commands from SAS® Enterprise Guide® connecting to a SAS® Metadata Server when running SAS® 9.2 or later
When running X commands or SYSTASK commands from SAS Enterprise Guide connecting to a remote SAS server, you might see an error similar to the following when running SAS 9.2 or later:
ERROR: Shell escape is not valid in this SAS session.
By default, for security reasons, X commands are not allowed in this environment. This restriction prevents SAS Enterprise Guide users from running system-level commands on the SAS server.
If your site wants to allow users to run X commands from SAS Enterprise Guide, then your system administrator can perform the following tasks in SAS® Management Console 9.2 (or later).
- Expand Server Manager ► SASApp ► SASApp - Logical Workspace Server.
- Right-click on SASApp - Workspace Server and select Properties.
- Click the Options tab, and then click the Advanced Options button.
- Click the Launch Properties tab, and select Allow XCMD. Click OK until you have closed all open dialog boxes.
- To enable X commands to also be executed under the SAS Stored process server, follow the same steps above for the SASApp - Logical Stored Process Server ► SASApp - Stored Process Server.
- Exit SAS Management Console.
- From the Microsoft Windows desktop, click Start and then Services.
- Select Stop the Metadata Server and wait a few moments.
- Restart the servers as follows:
- Start the Metadata Server.
- Start the Object Spawner.
- Start SAS Remote Services.
- Start the SASTS - Table Server.
Now, X commands should work from SAS Enterprise Guide when submitted to your SAS Workspace Server and SAS Stored Process Servers.
