When you run PROC METALIB in SAS 9.2, the procedure might appear to stop responding and eventually fail. The following message appears:
ERROR: Read Access Violation In Task [ METALIB ] Exception occurred at (4FD07331) Task Traceback Address Frame (DBGHELP API Version 4.0 rev 5) 4FD07331 0829F0D8 tkmk:tkBoot+0x630D 017EC920 0829F11C sashost:Main+0x1635C 63437832 0829F290 sasmetas:mcn_main+0x16832 63435C30 0829F52C sasmetas:mcn_main+0x14C30 6342EC9C 0829F800 sasmetas:mcn_main+0xDC9C 63422938 0829FF90 sasmetas:mcn_main+0x1938 017E2854 0829FFA4 sashost:Main+0xC290 018CE038 0829FFB8 sashost:Main+0xF7A74 77E64829 0829FFEC kernel32:GetModuleHandleA+0xDF
This error can occur when the underlying physical table that is being updated in metadata has new columns.
To work around this issue, delete the metadata for the table and then register the table again by using SAS® Management Console or PROC METALIB.
To test if this problem might occur for your situation, submit PROC METALIB using the NOEXEC and REPORT statements. If the report shows more columns to update than you expect, and some of those updates reference columns for which no change occurred, then you might encounter this problem.
