Problem Note 38905: SAS client applications might fail to connect to a server that is configured for failover

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

SAS Windows clients such as SAS® Enterprise Guide and SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office might fail to connect to a SAS server that is configured for failover.

There are two ways that SAS servers can be configured for failover. One way is to have multiple server definitions under a single logical server. A second way is to have multiple machine definitions under a single server definition.

The connection problem that is experienced by SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office can occur if the second method is used to configure failover.

Example:

A logical workspace server definition contains a single server definition that has three machines associated with it. If the SAS Object Spawner that is associated with the first machine is not running, the client application fail to connect, even if the other two SAS Object Spawners are running.

The client application should try the second and third machine after failing to connect to the first server. However, if the connection fails with the other machines, you do receive an error indicating that the connection failed.
