Problem Note 38292: Libname X not available for use error when password for WebDAV library is more than nine characters

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

The following error is produced when running PROC METALIB against a WebDAV library and when the password for that WebDAV resource is greater than 9 characters.

ERROR: Libname X not available for use.

where X is the Libref defined to the Library in metadata.

The problem is isolated to the METALIB procedure, and is not specific to the META engine.

Consider this example:

The library is defined in the SAS® Metadata Repository with the following Libname statement.

LIBNAME WDAVLIB BASE "https://testsrv.sas.com:443/webdav/Testing Area" WEBDAV USER="wduser" PASSWORD="WebDavUser_Pass1";

PROC METALIB run against that library fails, generating the error show below, since the password for the authenticated user for WebDAV (USER="wduser" PASSWORD="WebDavUser_Pass1") is greater than 9 characters:

PROC METALIB; OMR (METASERVER="meta_host.sas.com" PORT="8561" PROTOCOL=BRIDGE USER="wduser" PASSWORD="WebDavUser_Pass1" LIBID="A5GEKMOY.B7000ENT" REPNAME="Foundation"); UPDATE_RULE(DELETE); RUN;
ERROR: Libname WDAVLIB not available for use.

The error occurs because a buffering problem in PROC METALIB passes a corrupt password to WebDAV. The user fails to authenticate on WebDAV and the Library is not assigned.

As a circumvention, change the password for the WebDAV user to be nine or fewer characters.

Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix to correct this issue.

See Problem Note 36544 for related problem specific to the META Library Engine.
