The performance of a query that references a non-default hierarchy might not be optimal when using clients such as SAS^® Web Report Studio, SAS^® Information Delivery Portal, or SAS^® Information Map Studio. One way to optimize these types of queries is to define a custom data item in the information map that references the top-level member of your hierarchy. Here is an example of the expression for such a data item:

[MyDimension].[My Non-DefaultHierarchy].[All My Non-DefaultHierarchy]

This member references the All member of the non-default hierarchy. Once placed in your report, this custom member can be navigated in exactly the same way as the member that is supplied by SAS.

Note: With this approach, you cannot have member-level security defined to the hierarchy that restricts access to the All member. If member-level security is defined, you must use the supplied data item, or create a data item that includes the top-most available member(s) in your hierarchy.
