Problem Note 30395: 'Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close' error when inserting a Microsoft Excel file into Microsoft PowerPoint

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

After installing the SAS® Financial Management 4.3 Add-in for Microsoft Excel, an error might be generated when a Microsoft Excel file is inserted into a Microsoft PowerPoint document.

Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close
To circumvent this, perform the following:
  1. Use a standard text editor to modify the <SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config> file, inserting the following anywhere between the upper and lower <assemblySettings> entries:
    <add key="LoadWhenEmbedded" value="false"/>
    The <SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config> file is typically located on the client machine at:

    <drive>:\Program Files\SAS\Add-In for Microsoft Office\
  2. Use a standard text editor to modify the <SAS.Solutions.OfficeAddin.dll.config> file, inserting the following anywhere between the upper and lower <assemblySettings> entries:
    <add key="LoadWhenEmbedded" value="false"/>
    The <SAS.Solutions.OfficeAddin.dll.config> file is typically located on the client machine at:
    <drive>:\Program Files\SAS\SAS Solutions Services\Add-In for Microsoft Office
  3. Launch the PowerPoint, application.
  4. From the menu bar, select Insert -> Object
  5. Select the "Create From File" option and designate a valid Excel file
  6. Once the Excel file has been inserted in PowerPoint, double click the Excel object. This will cause the Excel file to become active within Excel, but you will not be able log on to the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel to refresh the table.
