Problem Note 20992: Problems opening an information map that contains an apostrophe in the SAS® Add-in for Microsoft Office

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It
In the SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office, if you attempt to use an
information map that contains an apostrophe in the Data Item Name or ID
you might encounter a problem depending on the Microsoft Office product
and task you are attempting to perform.

If you are trying to open the information map in Microsoft Office Excel,
you might encounter a specific error depending on your release of the
SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office. If you are running the SAS Add-in for
Microsoft Office with no hot fixes applied (2.1.0.241), you might
receive an error similar to the following:

"Server:Infomap name" encountered error(s) while opening the
results: Data set has zero columns. Cannot complete request.

If you are running the SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office 2.1.0.255 or
later, you might receive a syntax error such as the following:

"Server: Infomap name" failed to execute

In the details, you will see the following syntax error:

               _______ _______
             49 49
             22
             76
ERROR 22-322: Syntax error, expecting one of the following: a name,
        ;, DEFAULT,
              _ALL_, _CHARACTER_, _CHAR_, _NUMERIC_.
ERROR 76-322: Syntax error, statement will be ignored.
             _______ _________
             49 49
                 _
                 49

If you are running a task with the information map selected as the
Active Data source in Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Word or
Microsoft Office Powerpoint, the task might complete with syntax errors
in the log that are similar to what is listed above in the log or it
might hang and never complete the task.

To circumvent the problem, you will have to remove the apostrophe from
the information map. Removing the apostrophe might require that you
return to the original input table to the information map and remove any
apostrophes in column labels and then recreate the information map.

This should not be an issue in subsequent major releases because the internal
code for opening an information map has changed.
