Problem Note 20460: Joining two tables can cause your system to stop responding or can cause an access-violation problem

If you attempt to join two tables through an SQL statement, your SAS® session might stop responding, or you could receive the following access-violation error message:

This error occurs if you perform the following steps:
  1. Submit a LIBNAME statement using the META engine to assign a metadata library that points to an Oracle database.


  2. Submit an SQL procedure that creates a view by joining two tables in the metadata library.


  3. Submit a DATA step that creates a data set view by setting the SQL view that you created in step 2.

If you encounter the access-violation message or a system interruption after performing these steps, this hot fix resolves the problem. If you encounter this problem under other circumstances, this hot fix does not apply.
