Usage Note 20274: Grid sign-on fails to honor the TCPPORTFIRST and the TCPPORTLAST options

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

When you implement a SAS grid sign-on, the client SAS/CONNECT® software session might fail, generating the following error message:

ERROR: A communication subsystem partner link setup request failure has
       occurred.
ERROR: SAS did not start properly. Please insure that your sascmd value
does not attempt to run SAS in the background.
ERROR: Remote signon to GNODE1 cancelled.
ERROR: A link to GNODE1 does not exist; execute SIGNON to establish the
       link.

These errors can be misleading because no SASCMD sign-on was performed. The GRDSVC_ENABLE function should have been submitted in the code to indicate that a grid sign-on was performed.

This problem occurs because the client SAS/CONNECT session listens for a request so that the SAS/CONNECT server can negotiate a port back. The port SAS uses to listen should be governed by the TCPPORTFIRST option and the TCPPORTLAST option as they are defined on the server side. However, the grid sign-on is not honoring the setting of these options.
