Usage Note 20960: The authorization inheritance utility is now available for the SAS® Management Console

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It
The Inheritance tab plug-in for SAS Management Console adds the ability
to view authorization inheritance. The Inheritance tab displays on the
properties window of each viewable object. The Inheritance tab plug-in
can be downloaded from the Tech Support Hotfix area.

On the Inheritance tab, you can trace the current item's parents. It
displays a tree of resources. The first item in the tree is the current
item. If the current item has any immediate parents, you can expand the
first node in the tree to see those parents. To further trace the
inheritance, continue to expand nodes. The repository-level parent (the
repository ACT) is not displayed in the tree.

TIP: When you move from the main Folders view to the Inheritance Tab,
there is a shift in orientation. In the Folders view, you expand parent
nodes in order to get to an item that you are interested in. On the
Inheritance tab, you begin with the item that you are interested in and
then expand nodes to move up that item's inheritance path.

These examples describe how the Inheritance tab displays inheritance
paths:

- Each user, group, role, ACT, and application server inherits only from
the repository ACT. On the Inheritance tab for any of these items,
only the item itself is listed.

 - Each report, information map, folder, and stored process inherits
from one chain of parents. On the Inheritance tab for any of these
items, there is one expandable node that is immediately below the
   item.

 - A Physical Table often inherits from two chains of parents. On the
Inheritance tab for an item that has more than one inheritance path,
multiple expandable nodes exist immediately below the item.

Note: An inheritance path can branch at any point in the tree. Expand
all nodes in order to get the whole picture.

TIP: It is easier to interpret the information on this tab if you clear
the Show Association Node check box.
