Problem Note 19112: Multiple queries generated when opening an information map that uses custom data items

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

The first time an OLAP information map is opened with a Java based client, multiple queries might be executed on the server. This problem only occurs when using data items that have been customized in SAS® Information Map Studio.

If the data item is implemented with a ResourceAwareStrExpr (RASE), then it is considered to be a custom data item. You can determine if the data item is implemented this way by going to the XML tab from the Tools menu in SAS Information Map Studio and locating the XML for the data item in question by searching for its name. If the item's expression, the XML nested within the Expr tag, is ResourceAwareStrExpr, then it is a custom data item.

This problem affects SAS® Web OLAP Viewer, Visual Data Explorer, and SAS® Web Report Studio. If the problem occurs within SAS Web Report Studio, then you might be receiving an "Out of Memory" error over time.

To use the hot fix below, custom attributes must be created in SAS Information Map Studio for each custom data item. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Launch SAS Information Map Studio 3.1.
  2. Click Tools -> Options -> Advanced.
  3. Check the box beside "Show tabs for custom properties". Click OK to close the window. Restart SAS Information Map Studio.
  4. Open the information map, and go to the Properties window for the custom data item
  5. Select the Custom tab. Add the following names and value pairs:

    • If the custom data item is a measure, add the following attributes:
         A description is not necessary:
         SAS.IQ.IS_MEASURE = true
         SAS.IQ.DIMENSION_NAME = Measures
         SAS.IQ.DIMENSION_TYPE = 2
         SAS.IQ.HIERARCHY_NAME = [Measures]

    • If the custom data item is a category, add the following attributes. The dimension name and hierarchy name should be changed to match your data item.
         SAS.IQ.IS_MEASURE=false
         SAS.IQ.DIMENSION_NAME=GEOGRAPHY
         SAS.IQ.DIMENSION_TYPE=3
         SAS.IQ.HIERARCHY_NAME=[GEOGRAPHY].[GLOBAL]

  6. Repeat step 5 for each custom data item.

Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
