A SAS client such as Enterprise Guide may not be able to access a Metadata Server, Workspace Server or Stored Process Server running on the same machine name or on localhost. The following errors may be encountered.

   ERROR: "A connection could not be made to the requested resource".

   ERROR:  Could not establish a connection to the SAS server on the
           requested machine. Verify that the SAS server has been
           started with the -objectserver option or that the SAS spawner
           has been started. Verify that the port Combridge is
           attempting to connect to is the same as the port SAS (or
           the spawner) is listening on."

This problem occurs when Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(IPv6) has been installed on the machine. IPv6 configures link-local IPv6 addresses for each IPv6 interface. Link-local addresses have the prefix FE80::/64. The command, ipconfig, can be used to determine if IPv6 has been installed.

To circumvent the problem, uninstall IPv6.
