Problem Note 17478: 'SAS' or 'SAS Solutions' selection is missing from SASĀ® Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel toolbar
After installing the SAS Solutions Add-In for Microsoft Office and the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel, you should see a 'SAS Solutions' item on the Microsoft Excel toolbar. If you installed via a plan file that also includes the SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office, you should also have a 'SAS' item on the Microsoft Excel toolbar.
If you are missing one or both of these menu items, follow the steps outlined below. These steps are listed in order of the most common causes.
- Ensure that the SAS Financial Management Functions Add-in is enabled.
For Microsoft Excel 2003:
- Select Tools > Add-Ins from the menu bar.
- 'SAS Financial Management Functions' should be selected. in the list of 'Add-Ins available'.
- If it is not selected, highlight that Add-in and select Browse.
- In the browse dialog, verify the reference to <SAS Financial Management Functions.xla> location. This file should be installed at:
<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Library
on the client machine.
For Microsoft Excel 2007:
- Select the 'Office Button' and then 'Excel Options'.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-ins'.
- 'SAS Financial Management Functions' should appear under the 'Active Application Add-ins' heading.
- If not, select 'SAS Financial Management Functions' from the 'Inactive Application Add-ins' list.
- Ensure 'Excel Add-ins' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- 'SAS Financial Management Functions' should be selected. in the list of 'Add-Ins available'.
- If not, highlight that add-in and select Browse.
- In the browse dialog, verify the reference to <SAS Financial Management Functions.xla> location. This file should be installed at:
<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library
on the client machine.
For Microsoft Excel 2010:
- Select File > Options from the menu bar.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-Ins'.
- 'SAS Financial Management Functions' should appear under the 'Active Application Add-ins' heading.
- If not, select 'SAS Financial Management Functions' from the 'Inactive Application Add-ins' list.
- Ensure 'Excel Add-ins' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- 'SAS Financial Management Functions' should be selected. in the list of 'Add-Ins available'.
- If not, highlight that add-in and select Browse.
- In the browse dialog, verify the reference to <SAS Financial Management Functions.xla> location. This file should be installed at:
<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Library
on the client machine.
- Check the disabled items list:
For Microsoft Excel 2003:
- Select Help > About Microsoft Excel > Disabled items.
- If there are any SAS items in the list select the item and click Enable.
- Re-start Excel after making that change.
For Microsoft Excel 2007:
- Select the 'Office Button' and then 'Excel Options'.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-ins'.
- Ensure 'Disabled Items' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- If there are any SAS items in the list select the item and click Enable.
- Re-start Excel after making that change.
For Microsoft Excel 2010:
- Select File > Options from the menu bar.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-Ins'.
- Ensure 'Disabled Items' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- If there are any SAS items in the list select the item and click Enable.
- Re-start Excel after making that change.
- Verify that SAS is selected in the COM-addins dialog:
For Microsoft Excel 2003:
- Open Excel and select Tools > Customize.
- Select the Commands tab.
- In the 'Categories:' pane, select 'Tools'.
- In the 'Commands:' pane, locate 'COM Add-ins in the list, then drag and drop it on the Excel menu bar.
- Close the dialog box.
- Select the COM Add-ins menu. If 'SAS' appears as an available add-in, make sure it is selected, click OK.
You can return the COM Add-ins menu by:
- Going back to the 'Commands' tab from Tools > Customize.
- Selecting 'Tools' from the "Categories" pane.
- Dragging and dropping the Com Add-ins menu item from the toolbar back into the 'Commands:' area.
For Microsoft Excel 2007:
- Select the 'Office Button' and then 'Excel Options'.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-ins'.
- Ensure 'COM Add-ins' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- For any SAS items in the COM Add-ins list, ensure they are selected. If not, select them and then select 'OK'.
- Re-start Excel after making these changes.
For Microsoft Excel 2010:
- Select File > Options from the menu bar.
- In the Excel Options dialog, select 'Add-Ins'.
- Ensure 'COM Add-ins' is selected in the 'Manage' list and select 'Go'.
- For any SAS items in the COM Add-ins list, ensure they are selected. If not, select them and then select 'OK'.
- Re-start Excel after making these changes.
- Verify that the following file exists on the client workstation:
<drive>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SAS\Add-In For Microsoft Office\Plugins.xml
- Make sure the .NET security is set to "FullTrust":
- Invoke the .NET Configuration Tool by selecting
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools
- Select Microsoft .Net Framework Configuration
- Expand RuntimeSecurityPolicy > Machine > Code Groups > All_code
- Select My_Computer_Zone
- On the right side of the screen, select the link "Edit Code Group Properties"
- In the Properties dialog box that displays, go to the 'Permission Set' tab and change it from "Nothing" to "FullTrust"
- Determine which version of Microsoft .Net Framework is installed.

- If an incorrect version of the Java 2 Runtime Edition (JRE) is installed on the client machine, the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel install or systems requirement wizard might not successfully complete. For more information see SAS Note 30759.
