Usage Note 16890: The SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office 1.3 and Microsoft .Net Framework
The SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office 1.3 requires Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. The SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 1.3 does not work with .Net Framework 2.0. If .Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0 are both installed on the same machine, the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 1.3 installs but might not load properly in Microsoft products such as Excel or Word.
For example, the SAS menu might be missing, or an error occurs when the SAS menu is present and is used. For more information about these issues, see SAS KB0036198, "The menu or toolbars for the SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office might be missing" and SAS Note 16844, "Missing SAS® menu in MS Excel for SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office."
To work around this issue, use a configuration file that instructs Excel or Word to use .Net Framework 1.1. The configuration files for Excel and Word are excel.exe.config and winword.exe.config, respectively. You can download these files from here.
Note: When you save the configuration files from the above link, use All Files in the Save as type drop-down box rather than XML Document.
For Excel, save the excel.exe.config file into the same folder that excel.exe is located. For Word, save the winword.exe.config file into the same folder that winword.exe is located. Then restart Excel or Word.
Note: When you use these configuration files, Excel or Word loads the .Net Framework 1.1. If you use another SAS add-in that requires .Net Framework 2.0, then that SAS add-in will not run when Excel or Word is active and .Net Framework 1.1 is loaded.
If the SAS menu is missing after saving the appropriate configuration file into the correct folder, then see SAS Note 16844, "Missing SAS® menu in MS Excel for SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office."
