Usage Note 16844: Missing SAS® menu in MS Excel for SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office
The SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office presents a SAS menu in Microsoft (MS) Excel. If the SAS menu is missing, it is possible that SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office has been intentionally unloaded or disabled due to Excel ending abnormally or aborting. In some cases, the SAS menu is present and visible, but dimmed.
If SAS is then enabled from the disabled items list, this action does not automatically load the menu.
Take the following steps to present the COM Add-Ins menu to load SAS for SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office:
- Open Excel and select Tools ► Customize.
- Select the Commands tab.
- From Categories select Tools, then in Commands locate and drag COM Add-ins to the menu bar along the top.
- Close the dialog box.
- Select COM Add-ins menu.
- Check SAS if it is cleared, and click OK.
Note: These procedures also apply to and work in Microsoft Word.
To return the COM Add-ins menu, repeat steps 1, 2, and 3, but in step 3, drag COM Add-ins back to Commands and click Close.
See SAS KB0036198, "SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office toolbars might be missing," for related information about the disabled items list.
See SAS Note 17105, "Incomplete SAS menu in Microsoft Word using SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office," for a similar issue in MS Word.
For Office 2007, COM Add-ins can be accessed without placing the COM Add-ins menu on the ribbon. Here is an example for Excel 2007:
- Open Excel 2007, then select the Office button
- Select Excel Options, then select Add-Ins on the lefthand navigation bar.
- From the Manage text box at the bottom, select COM Add-ins, then click Go.
- If SAS is cleared, select it, then click OK
