Problem Note 16676: Update Table Metadata fails with "ERROR: Error trying to establish
connection: Unable to prompt for connection information"
Update Table Metadata may fail with the following error:
ERROR: Error trying to establish connection: Unable to prompt
for connection information.
This error occurs when the library that contains this table does not
have a default login defined and the user executing this process does
not have login credentials explicitly defined for the authentication
domain associated with the server. The underlying problem is that
connection options are not being included on the generated LIBNAME
statement unless a user ID and password are found.
In the case of libraries like Excel, where logins are not even used,
this results in library allocation failures. Unfortunately, there is no
workaround for libraries that do not use or require credentials.
For libraries that do use credentials, possible workarounds are as
follows:
- Specify a default login in the library properties.
- Explicitly define login credentials via User Manager in SAS®
Management Console under the Logins tab for the authentication
domain associated with the server.
