Beginning with Service Pack 3, SAS^® OLAP Cube Studio will include the functionality to import and export cube metadata. This feature will allow the migration of SAS^® 9 OLAP cubes from one repository to another without having to rerun PROC OLAP or step through the Source Designer.

The import/export feature will generate an XML file based on the cube's metadata. This XML file will contain all metadata information about the cube, including dimensions, hierarchies, levels, measures, calculated measures, named sets, and security settings.

If a cube of the same name already exists in the new repository, the import will fail. To perform the import/export, you should have at least "Administer" privileges on the metadata server and should ideally be the unrestricted user. Cubes should be imported into the same types of repository. For example, cubes located in a foundation repository, should be imported into a foundation repository. Import/Export into project repositories is not available.

After performing an import of the cube data, you will be required to rebuild the cube using either shortform PROC OLAP or the create function in OLAP Cube Studio.
