June 2007 Changes
The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Web Application Administration Guide was updated to incorporate technical corrections. In addition, the document includes new information about the following:
- administering the new SAS Business Intelligence Dashboard
- tuning IBM WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0.2

The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Pre-installation Checklists was updated as follows:
- A new checklist was added on which to record Xythos WebFile Server information.
- Information was added about TCP/IP ports required by the products in the Platform Suite for SAS and the SAS OS Scheduler.
The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Installation Guide has been updated as follows:
- "Troubleshooting Your Initial Setup" was moved into a separate document, SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Troubleshooting Your
Initial Installation.
- Chapters 2 through 4 were reordered to reflect the order in which the tasks covered in those chapters are actually performed at most sites.
- The chapter "Building a SAS Software Depot" contains more detailed information about how to build a depot on a UNIX system.
- The document includes updated information about installing Xythos WebFile Server for use as a WebDAV server.
- The configuration instructions explain how to handle the situation where different SAS servers use different authentication providers.
- A new appendix explains how to uninstall the SAS Intelligence Platform.
The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Security Administration Guide has been updated with new information as follows:
- Information on direct use of an alternative authentication provider was enhanced.
- Information on OLAP member-level permissions was moved to this document from SAS 9.1.3 OLAP Server: Administrator's Guide.
April 2006 Changes
- The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Administration Guide was updated in the following areas.
- Updates were made to "Preparing SAS Enterprise Miner for Use."
- Additional ports were added to the "Users and Ports" appendix.
- The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Installation Guide was updated in the following areas.
- Information about the SAS Configuration Troubleshooter was added to "Troubleshooting Your Initial
Setup."
- An appendix "Reserving Ports" was added. This appendix lists the ports that are required by the
SAS servers and spawners in the system.
- The pre-installation checklists in the appendix "Installing and Configuring the SAS Servers on
z/OS" were updated.
March 2006 Changes
- Beginning in March 2006, the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform documentation includes two new documents:
- The SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Security Administration Guide explains the security model for the SAS Intelligence Platform and provides instructions for performing security-related administrative tasks. The emphasis is on suite-wide aspects of the security functionality that SAS provides.
- SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Pre-installation Checklists is intended for use prior to installing the SAS Intelligence Platform. This document provides checklists for recording information about operating system user accounts and groups to be set up, TCP/IP ports to be reserved, and third-party products to be installed. Checklists are provided for Windows, UNIX, and z/OS system.
- Minor updates were made to the SAS Intelligence Platform: Overview.
- The following updates were made to the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Installation Guide:
- A new chapter, "Troubleshooting Your Initial Setup," was added .
- The "Third-Party Products" chapter was updated.
- Numerous updates were made to the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Administration Guide.
- The following information was added:
- three new chapters on configuring and administering the metadata server (see note below)
- a new chapter on using the BI Manager to promote BI metadata and content
- an overview of the data sources that are supported and how to connect to them
- a step-by-step guide to connecting to common data sources
- a guide to assigning libraries
- a discussion of managing table metadata
- a new section on creating a pool of workspace servers in support of row-level security
- a new chapter on configuring the ESRI map component
- a new chapter on administering SAS Web OLAP Viewer for Java
- a new appendix listing the standard platform user accounts and port numbers
- Substantial updates were made to the chapter on administering SAS Web Report Studio.
- The appendix "Understanding the SAS Configuration Environment" was updated.
- Security-specific information that forms part of the new Security Administration Guide was removed.

was previously available in the SAS Metadata Server: Setup and Administration Guide and the SAS Open Metadata Architecture: Best Practices Guide, which were published at

September 2005
- The chapter in the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Installation Guide on creating required users and groups was revised. The requirements had changed
for customers who are using software from Platform Computing Corporation for either scheduling or grid computing.
- The chapter on installing third-party products was revised. Platform Computing software can no longer be installed using SAS Software Navigator. These products must be installed directly from the media supplied by Platform Computing Corporation.
- A chapter was added to the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Administration Guide on setting up support for grid computing. SAS ETL Studio users can produce
jobs that can run on a grid of processing nodes, and SAS programmers can write programs that take
advantage of a grid.
- The chapter on SAS Enterprise Miner has been revised to reflect the fact that the application now
relies on a middle-tier component called the Analytics Platform.
July 2005
In July 2005, the SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: Planning and Administration Guide,
Third Edition, was divided into three parts: an Overview, an Installation Guide,
and an Administration Guide. The following changes were made in the documentation at that time:
- The Overview replaced SAS 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: An Introduction. The Overview was added to SAS OnlineDoc 9.1.3, which is available in PDF and in HTML.
- The Installation Guide was revised:
- The pre-installation instructions were revised to specify which tasks need
to be performed on which hosts in a distributed system. The pre-installation checklists were
revised to match the new explanations.
- SAS began recommending that all third-party products be installed before you install
SAS software. This approach makes the SAS installation proceed more quickly and efficiently.
- In addition, the Installation Guide was added to SAS OnlineDoc 9.1.3, which is available in PDF and in HTML.
- The Administration Guide was revised:
- The chapters on security administration were revised to contain more task-oriented information.
- The chapter "Preparing Data for Use" was revised to include more detailed information about
establishing connectivity to data sources and managing SAS libraries.
- The information about tuning the JVM in your Java application server was revised.
- A new chapter about scheduling jobs, "SAS Scheduling," was added.
- In addition, the Administration Guide was added to SAS OnlineDoc 9.1.3, which is available in PDF and in HTML.
March 2005
The following changes were made when the SAS Intelligence Platform: Planning and
Administration Guide, Third Edition, replaced the 9.1.3 second edition in March 2005.
- A new chapter, "Administering SAS Web Report Studio," was added. It addressed new
features in SAS Web Report Studio 2.1.
- A new chapter, "Administering SAS Information Map Studio," was added. It addressed
new features in SAS Information Map Studio 2.1.
- A new chapter, "Configuring Your SAS Servers for Better Performance," was added. It contained new and revised material.
- A new chapter, "Best Practices for Configuring Your Middle Tier," was added. It described how to set up an HTTP server to serve static pages and how to cluster servers to scale the system and provide
for server failover.
- An overview of the reporting process was added to the chapter "SAS Intelligence Platform."
- A section on configuring support for scheduling reports using the LSF JobScheduler was added to
the chapter "Post-Configuration Tasks."
- The section on pre-assigning libraries in the chapter "Post-Configuration Tasks" was modified.
- More details about the authentication processes were added to the chapter "Understanding
Authentication."
- The chapter "Administering SAS ETL Studio" was revised.
