System Requirements
SASĀ® Firmwide Risk for Solvency II 3.3

Overview

Note: Content must be loaded for this solution to work effectively. To obtain information about downloads for applications that contain updates for SAS products and solutions, select the link at solution support for download. It is imperative that two directories be created for the content prior to launching the SAS Deployment Wizard. Content can be loaded either before or after deployment of the solution.

Note: Since the size of the data to be processed is customer-specific, only general guidelines can be provided. Typically, 10 GB of memory per CPU is sufficient. It is highly recommended that before purchasing hardware, users should consult with a SAS Performance Engineer to help size their system appropriately.

Server-Tier Requirements

SAS Firmwide Risk Management for Solvency II Server

Select a platform:

SAS Firmwide Risk Management for Solvency II includes:

  • Two SAS/ACCESS Engines of choice.
  • Three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice.

SAS Firmwide Risk Management for Solvency II includes SAS Infrastructure for Risk Management. For more information, see the system requirements for that solution.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes two standard SAS/ACCESS engines of choice.

SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Non-distributed is required if deployment is Non-distributed. It is optional if deployment is Distributed.

SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Distributed is required if the deployment is for Distributed only.

With SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting release 7.1 and beyond, Teradata and Greenplum, like all other data storage providers, must use the Embedded Process to achieve parallel loading.

SAS Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

SAS LASR Analytic Server (Distributed LASR) on Linux for x64 on Linux for x64

SAS Product installed on this machine: SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop 1.01
Supported Environments:
  • Oracle Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Oracle Linux 7.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family

SAS Products installed to this machine:

  • SAS High-Performance Node Installation
  • SAS High-Performance Deployment for Hadoop
  • SAS High-Performance Management Console

Environments: Oracle Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family.

In previous releases, LASR used memory mapping of data between in-memory storage and on-disk storage which allowed for faster data loads into memory – a special case of parallel loading for Teradata and Greenplum only. This memory mapping was provided by features in SAS High-Performance Analytics utilized by LASR. These specific memory mapping models are no longer supported for Teradata and Greenplum.

For Hadoop:

Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to http://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/v94/hadoop/hadoop-distributions.html. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.5: Installation and Configuration Guide at http://support.sas.com/documentation/solutions/hpainfrastructure/

At SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting release 7.1 and beyond, these components may be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware from the commodity hardware nodes (asymmetric). This change allows the SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting, Distributed Mode server-tier Base SAS components to be installed on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR Grid.

In previous releases, Base SAS, ACCESS, and SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting had to be installed on the head node of the commodity Hardware (symmetric).

Middle-Tier Requirements

SAS Firmwide Risk Management for Solvency II Mid-Tier

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Mid-Tier

Select a platform:

Web Application Servers

When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.

To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.

Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.

Client-Tier Requirements

SAS Risk Dimensions Clients

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Mobile Clients

SAS Visual Analytics Mobile Clients (SAS Mobile BI) are available for the Apple iPad and Android tablets via free downloads from app stores.

SAS AppDev Studio

Please see the SAS AppDev Studio system requirements for the latest information about its requirements.
