To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.

Third-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, endpoint-protection, and system-monitoring software can interfere with SAS applications and can block files. For more information about the official guidance from SAS Technical Support, see the Anti-Virus section of the SAS Foundation System Requirements document that corresponds to the operating system where you are deploying SAS.
SAS Regular Price Optimization Server also includes a SAS/ACCESS engine of choice (Oracle) and three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice.
SAS Framework Data Server must go on the same Server-Tier machine as SAS Integration Technologies.
SAS Merchandise Intelligence Common Transactions Server also includes one SAS/ACCESS engine of choice (as available per platform) and three SAS metadata bridges of choice.
SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice. It must be the same as the SAS Pack Optimization Long Jobs Server ACCESS engine. Others are separately licensed. SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server on a separate machine from the solution software.
Inclusion of SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server
For Hadoop Support
Base SAS, SAS/ACCESS engines, and SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server can be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware (asymmetric). The Distributed LASR Base SAS components for SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting can therefore be installed on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR grid.
Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to SAS 9.4 Support for Hadoop.

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
Machines Supported
SAS Regular Price Optimization 5.4 requires a 64-bit machine capable of running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5 or later: x64 chip family (x86-64)

Memory Requirements
Database tier: 6 GB of memory per core (minimum); 8 GB of memory per core recommended
SAS back-end server tier: 6 GB of memory per core (minimum); 12 GB of memory per core recommended
Storage Requirements
50 MB per second per IO thread (minimum)
The number of IO threads depends on several factors, such as the size of the data, total number of cores, and the batch window. (This is usually determined during the hardware sizing process.)
Operating Systems
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 or later.

Java Runtime Environment
Java is required on the SAS Merchandise Intelligence Grid Server. The supported version of the JRE is included with your installation.
Database Software
Oracle Database 19c Standard Edition is required.
Note: The correct JDBC drivers are included when you install Oracle.
Samba
Samba is required on the SAS Server machine. The required version of Samba is included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5.
SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Mid-Tier on a separate machine.
The Middle-Tier supports the same machine and uses the same operating system as the Server Tier.

When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.
To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.
Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.
The SAS Visual Analytics Apps are supported on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Each app is written specifically for its operating system and provides native support for these devices so that you can view reports on your mobile device. You can download the apps for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
SAS recommends using the SAS Visual Analytics Apps for iOS or Android to view and interact with reports on mobile devices.
Java is required on the SAS Merchandise Intelligence client. The correct version of the JRE is included with your installation.

Adobe Reader 6 or later is required so users can export views, print PDFs, and read solution documentation.

A Web browser is required on each machine that will access the SAS documentation website and the SAS Technical Support site.
Supported Versions
Microsoft Office Excel
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 is required so that users can export certain lists or tables to Microsoft Excel (where the Export to Excel feature is available) and view exported views.
