Create and Share a Page Template

Portal users who are authorized as group content administrators can create page templates from their personal pages and then share the templates with groups of users. Content administrators for the Public group can create page templates from their personal pages and then share the templates with all portal users.
To create and share a page template, follow these steps:
  1. If the page already exists, then navigate to the page that you want to use as a template.
You can also search for the page. For details about searching, see Search for Content.
If the page does not yet exist, then create the page. For instructions, see Create a New Page. Do not share the page that you create.
  2. Specify the layout and contents of the page. See Edit the Contents of a Page.
  3. While the page is displayed in your portal, click Optionsthen selectCreate Page Template.
  4. On the Create a New Page Template page, specify the following information:
    Page rank
A number that indicates the importance of the pages that users create using this template, as compared to the importance of other pages. The default value is 100.
This number determines the order in which pages are listed in users' navigation bars. The pages are ordered by rank from lowest to highest. Pages with equal rank are listed in the order in which they were created.
Note: Users can choose to override page ranks by explicitly defining the order of pages. For more information, see Change the Navigation Bar Position or the Order of Pages.
    Location (group)
Select the group of users that you want to share the page template with.
    Share type
Select the type of sharing action that you want to apply:
    Default

The user can edit the new page or remove it.
    Persistent
The next time each user in the group logs on to the portal, a page will be created for the user based on the template. The new page is added to the user's portal.
The user can edit the new page, but cannot remove it.
Note: Pages that are created from persistent page templates can be removed only by a group content administrator. To remove these pages, the content administrator must delete the template from which the pages were created. See Delete a Page Template.
