Data Import

The requirement for importing data in SAS Visual Analytics Designer changes after you apply the latest hot fix to SAS^® Visual Analytics 7.5 and 7.51. Specifically, in order to import, you must be a member of the Visual Analytics: Data Building role. If you are not a member of the predefined Visual Analytics: Data Building role, then either the Import button in the Open Data Source dialog box is unresponsive or you see the errors that are described in SAS Note 67544.

You can be either a direct member of that role or a member of a group that is assigned to that role. You must use the Visual Analytics: Data Building role with its default capabilities selected. In addition, you cannot use a custom role to meet this requirement.

Note: Role members have access to SAS^® Visual Data Builder in addition to the ability to import data from SAS Visual Analytics Designer. You cannot modify the Visual Analytics: Data Building role in order to prevent users from accessing SAS Visual Data Builder. 

Query-Related Actions

Membership in the Visual Analytics: Data Building role is also required in order to perform the following tasks that are related to SAS® Visual Data Builder queries. Except where noted, these requirements apply even to the unrestricted sasadm@saspw user. 

• Delete queries in SAS® Management Console. If you are not in the role, then you see the error Exception occurred deleting Visual data query. Reason: java.lang.NullPointerException.
• Promote queries. See SAS Note 67834, "Role requirement for exporting and importing SAS^® Visual Data Builder queries in SAS^® Management Console has changed."
• Assign row-level security to a SAS® LASR™ Analytic Server table in SAS® Environment Manager. If you are not in the role, the pop-up that enables you to select Conditional grant does not appear. In this case, the unrestricted user is able to assign the condition. 

This change to the role requirement was made in order to improve security.
