ERROR in initializing EventGenerator: Unable to initialize EventGen configuration - exceeded max attempts - will not retry

There are two possible reasons for these errors.

  • The problem can occur when, in the web–application server logs, the BIDashboardIndicatorEventHandler.cth file is corrupted or when DefaultAuth is not defined as the default authentication domain in metadata.

As a workaround for this problem, follow these steps:

    1. Log on to SAS® Management Console as the unrestricted user.
    2. Click the Folders tab.
    3. Select System ► Applications ► SAS BI Dashboard ► BI Dashboard 4.3 -Event Generator ► CandidateTypeHandlerConfigs.
    4. Right-click BIDashboardIndicatorEventHandler.cth and select Write Contents to an External file from the menu.
    5. After the contents are written to an external file, delete the BIDashboardIndicatorEventHandler.cth file.
    6. Download the correct file from the Downloads tab in this note.
    7. Right-click the CandidateTypeHandlerConfigs folder and select Add Content from External Files or Directories from the menu.
    8. Select the new file. Then click OK to import the file.
    9. After the new file is imported, restart the web application server.
  • During deployment with the SAS® Deployment Wizard, if you specify a custom value for Authentication Domain (the default value is DefaultAuth), the SAS BI Dashboard Event Generator does not honor the custom value. As a result, SAS BI Dashboard Alerts are never sent.

Therefore, if you specify a custom value for Authentication Domain, you need to perform these manual steps:

    1. Log on to SAS Management Console as the unrestricted user.
    2. On the Plug-ins tab, select Application Management ► Configuration Manager ► SAS Application Infrastructure.
    3. Right-click BI Dashboard 4.3 - Event Generator and select Properties.
    4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    5. On the Advanced tab, click the Add button.
    6. Add the property named bid.eventgen.AlternateAuthDomain.
    7. Set the value to your authentication domain.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, determine whether the DefaultAuth authentication domain is defined for the metadata server. If it is not defined, the SAS BI Dashboard Event Generator does not function properly.

Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
