The SAS menu may disappear in Microsoft Office 2007 or become unresponsive in Microsoft Office 2003 after applying Hot Fix A54008 for the SAS^® Add-in for Microsoft Office 4.2. This can happen if you apply this hot fix to a machine that does not contain the patched version of the Visual C run-time components that fix a security hole in the Active Template Library (ATL). Without this patch, our COM Add-in does not load properly.

To fix this problem, download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update from the Microsoft Web Site. You can click the Downloads tab to find a link to the patch.

After you apply the security patch from Microsoft, you will have to reload the SAS^® Add-in in order for the SAS menu to redisplay. You can do this one of two ways.

The first option is to use the SwitcherUtility to reload the SAS menu on all the Microsoft Office applications. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open a Windows explorer window.
2. Navigate to the installation directory of the SAS^® Add-in for Microsoft Office. By default, this location is installed in c:\Program Files\SAS\Add-inForMicrosoftOffice\4.2\.
3. Double click the SwitcherUtility.exe file in this folder.
4. When the window opens make sure you have the installation of 4.2 selected, as well as all the Office products selected to be enabled. (See below)



The second option is to manually reload the SAS^® Add-in using in the Com Add-ins window. You can use the following steps to do this:

For Office 2003:

1. Select Tools → Customize.
2. Click the Commands tab.
3. Under Categories, select Tools
4. Under Commands, locate and drag COM Add-Ins to the menu bar
5. Close the Tools dialog box.
6. Select COM Add-Ins on the menu bar
7. In the COM Add-Ins dialog box that appears, select the SAS check box, and then click OK.

For Office 2007:

1. Select the Microsoft Office button.
2. Select the Options button at the bottom of the window for whichever Office product you are running.
3. In the left-hand panel, select Add-Ins.
4. In the Manage drop-down menu at the bottom of the window, select COM Add-ins and then click Go.
5. In the COM Add-Ins dialog box that displays, select the SAS and the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office Loader checkboxes, and then click OK.
