This document has been updated to reflect the requirements to deploy this SAS software along with SAS 9.4M9 (TS1M9), which was generally available in 2025.
Note: SAS Risk Stratum delivers three tiers of capabilities to match your needs: Governance, Computation, and Enterprise. Each level builds on the previous one to form a complete risk management framework. This minimizes any redundancy in functionality and enables you to invest in the capabilities you need when required.
Important: SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise system requirements apply to SAS Risk Stratum: Computation as well. System requirements for SAS Risk Stratum: Governance are the same as the SAS Risk Governance Framework 7.6 System Requirements.
SAS Risk Stratum Core is a required content solution package for the Computation and Enterprise tiers and requires the following products to be installed first (with the latest hot fixes):
Available on SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise (all are optional and separately licensed) - SAS Asset and Liability Management for Banking Server, SAS Asset and Liability Management Standard, SAS Regulatory Content for EBA Taxonomies, SAS Solution for CECL, SAS Solution for IFRS 9, SAS Solution for Regulatory Capital, and SAS Solution for Stress Testing.
Available on SAS Risk Stratum: Computation or Enterprise (all are optional and separately licensed) - SAS Solution for IFRS 17, SAS Solution for LDTI, and SAS Insurance Capital Management.
Available on SAS Risk Stratum: Governance, Computation, or Enterprise (both are optional and separately licensed) - SAS Governance and Compliance Manager and SAS Model Risk Management.
Note: For combinations of SAS Risk solutions on the same SAS Risk Stratum platform, SAS recommends that you engage your solution architecture team to determine the optimal infrastructure to support your requirements.
To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.
The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at SAS Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Later Support.
Third-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, endpoint-protection, and system-monitoring software can interfere with SAS applications and can block files. For more information about the official guidance from SAS Technical Support, see the Anti-Virus section of the SAS Foundation System Requirements document that corresponds to the operating system where you are deploying SAS.
SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise or SAS Risk Stratum: Computation must include at least one SAS/ACCESS engine for PostgreSQL. Based on your packaging selections, additional SAS/ACCESS engines, as well as any SAS Metadata Bridges, can be added as required.
Note: The SAS/ACCESS engines that are selected are applicable to all the SAS Risk Stratum servers: SAS Risk Stratum: Risk Governance Framework Server; SAS Risk Stratum: Infrastructure for Risk Management Server; SAS Risk Stratum: SAS Model Implementation Platform Server; SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server (Distributed and Non-Distributed LASR); and the SAS Solution LASR Analytic Server (Non-Distributed LASR only).
SAS Risk Stratum Core Content is available and obtained from an external download site if you have a current license for SAS Risk Stratum.
In addition, each SAS Risk Stratum Server includes the following optional servers:
Co-located Data Storage
SAS LASR Analytic Server supports Hadoop data storage environments.
Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to SAS 9.4: Support for Hadoop. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see the SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.9: Installation and Configuration Guide.
SAS Solution LASR Analytic Server must be the same as the SAS Visual Analytics Server.
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise or SAS Risk Stratum: Computation is deployed with the SAS internal PostgreSQL database server by default. The SAS Infrastructure for Risk Management and SAS Model Implementation Platform (if applicable) databases support only the specific SAS internal PostgreSQL database version with which they are shipped, as described below:
SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise or SAS Risk Stratum: Computation provides the same database support for SAS Risk Governance Framework as outlined in the SAS Risk Governance Framework 7.6 System Requirements.
SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Mid-Tier on a separate machine.
When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.
To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.
Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.
The SAS Visual Analytics Apps are supported on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Each app is written specifically for its operating system and provides native support for these devices so that you can view reports on your mobile device. You can download the apps for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
SAS recommends using the SAS Visual Analytics Apps for iOS or Android to view and interact with reports on mobile devices.
The list of web browsers that SAS supports is updated as new products are tested and approved. For the latest information, visit the SAS 9.4 Support for Web Browsers and Plug-Ins page.
Offerings with integration to SAS Risk Stratum are not included and are separately licensed. SAS Model Implementation Platform 3.4 is approved to work with SAS Risk Stratum: Enterprise.
