This document has been updated to reflect the requirements to deploy this SAS software along with SAS 9.4M8 (TS1M8), which was generally available in January 2024.
To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.
The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at SAS Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Later Support.
Third-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, endpoint-protection, and system-monitoring software can interfere with SAS applications and can block files. For more information about the official guidance from SAS Technical Support, see the Anti-Virus section of the SAS Foundation System Requirements document that corresponds to the operating system where you are deploying SAS.
SAS Episode Analytics server includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice.
SAS Visual Analytics Server is typically installed on the same machine as the SAS Episode Analytics Server.
The SAS Visual Analytics Server includes a SAS/ACCESS engine of choice.
Note: Both the Distributed Mode and Non-distributed Mode of SAS Visual Analytics Server include a Non-distributed Mode SAS LASR Analytic Server.
However, only the Distributed Mode of SAS Visual Analytics Server includes the Distributed Mode SAS LASR Analytic Server.
Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to SAS 9.4: Support for Hadoop. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see the SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.9: Installation and Configuration Guide.
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
SAS Visual Analytics Clients include one standard SAS/ACCESS engine. It must be the same as the ACCESS engine that you selected for the SAS Episode Analytics server, or it must be separately licensed.
For a list of web browsers that are supported for the user interfaces, refer to the SAS 9.4 Support for Web Browsers page.
Note: Firefox Web Browser is not supported.
The SAS Visual Analytics Apps are supported on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Each app is written specifically for its operating system and provides native support for these devices so that you can view reports on your mobile device. You can download the apps for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
SAS recommends using the SAS Visual Analytics Apps for iOS or Android to view and interact with reports on mobile devices.
