You can
use the Extract from R/3 wizard in SAS Management Console to pre-extract
metadata from selected SAP R/3 tables and write that metadata to SAS
data sets. After the metadata is extracted, use the SAP R/3 Register
Tables wizard in SAS Data Integration Studio to browse the metadata,
select data sources for SAS Data Integration Studio, and write metadata
about those SAP R/3 data sources to your metadata repository.
Follow these steps
to use the Extract from R/3 wizard:

Select
StartProgramsSASSAS Management Console to start SAS Management Console.

Select
ToolsExtract from R/3 to start the Extract from R/3 wizard.

From the
Configured SAP Server list box, select the configured
SAP server that enables you to connect to your SAP R/3 System and
click
Next.

In the
Metadata Library group box, verify that the path for
the SAP R/3 metadata library is correct and then select the
Merge into Existing Metadata check box if you want to
merge the metadata you are extracting into the SAS data sets that
already exist in the SAP R/3 metadata library.
Note: If you do
not select this check box, any existing SAS data sets will be overwritten.

In the
Select the type of Metadata to extract group box, specify
the types of metadata that you want to extract from your SAP R/3 System.
If you select the
Tables check box,
you can click
Table Ranges and specify a
range of tables to extract. You can also click
Options and specify other extraction options, such as whether to extract
structures, maintenance views, and help views.

Click
View selections to display the
Metadata Extract Selection dialog box
for viewing all metadata selections and extract options that you have
specified. Then click
OK to return to the
Extract SAP R./3 Metadata to SAS Datasets page.

Click
Next to display the
Save SAS Source Code page. If you want to save the SAS code that extracts the metadata
from your SAP System, use the text field or the browse button to specify
the name of the SAS program.

Click
Next to display the
Wizard Finish page
and then review the extraction parameters that you have defined. When
you are satisfied with the extraction parameters, click
Finish to begin the metadata extraction process.
