SAS Metadata
Server is a multiuser server that surfaces metadata from one or more
repositories to SAS Open Metadata Interface client applications by
means of the SAS Open Metadata Architecture. The SAS Open Metadata
Architecture is a general-purpose metadata management facility that
provides common metadata services for applications.

|
SAS RFC server
is needed in z/OS operating environments only. It is a component of
SAS/ACCESS Interface to R/3 that provides access to the data in SAP
Systems. The SAS RFC Server also supports calling advanced business
applications programming (ABAP) RFC functions. The SAS RFC Server
uses the TCP/IP protocol for communication with your SAP System.

|
The SAP users
identify the users who have the appropriate privileges to log in to
the SAP System and access the SAP data and metadata.
|
|
The SAS user
profiles are stored on the SAS Metadata Server. For more information
about defining users, see the User Manager Help in SAS Management
Console.

The SAS application
server identifies the local or remote installation of SAS by providing
a connection to the host machine.
|
|
The SAP server
identifies the version of SAP software that you are using.
|
|
The SAS application
server uses SAS/ACCESS Interface to R/3 to communicate with the SAP
System and access your SAP data.
|
|
The SAP System
library identifies the SAS engine that is used to connect to and read
data and metadata from your SAP System.
|
SAS application
server and SAP server
|
The SAS application
server uses the SAP server to access and read your SAP data. When
you extract SAP metadata, the SAP server and SAS use the SAP system
library to establish a connection to your SAP System.
|
|
The SAP metadata
library is a Base SAS library that contains SAP metadata extracted
from your SAP System. The library also identifies the location in
which to store the SAP metadata.
|
SAS application
server, SAP server, and SAP system library
|
The SAS application
server uses the SAP server and SAP System library to access and read
your SAP data. When you extract metadata, the SAS application server
extracts SAP metadata and stores the metadata as SAS data sets in
the SAP metadata library.
|
|
The BW Star library
is a Base SAS library. This library identifies the location to store
the data that you load from your SAP BW System. When the data is loaded,
it is converted from the SAP BW snowflake schema to a star schema.
|
SAS application
server, SAP server, and SAP System library
|
The SAS application
server uses the SAP server and SAP System library to access and read
your SAP data. When you specify the source SAP data that you want
to use, the SAS application server creates a job that loads the data
from the SAP BW InfoCube or ODS object into the BW Star library.
