SAP BW Metadata Search Page

Use the SAP BW Metadata Search page to perform the following tasks:
  • find the search results that contain a specified search string. You can use the find-text features to locate the search results that contain a specified text string.
  • review the results of your search for a given text string. The SAP BW Metadata Search page displays the results that match the search criteria that you specified in the Search Metadata for String dialog box. The search results are grouped according to the search options that you specified.
  • modify or refine your metadata search. You can either revise your metadata search criteria or refine your search by searching within the returned search results.
  • display the metadata and data contents of a selected table. You can select a table that is listed in the search results and view both the metadata for that table as well as the data in that table.
  • select the ODS Objects or InfoCubes you want to identify as data sources. You can select the objects that you want to identify as data sources in SAS Data Integration Studio. Metadata for the selected objects is written to the metadata repository and to the data stores that correlate to the tables in the data warehouse.
The SAP BW Metadata Search page contains the following items:
text string box
enables you to specify a text string that you want to search for. After you enter the text string, click the Find Text button to search all returned search results to locate the results that contain the specified text string.
Search Results list
displays a tree view of the results of your search and enables you to select the tables that you want to specify as data sources. Results are grouped according to the search criteria that you specified in the Search Metadata for String dialog box. You can expand and collapse the folders in the Source Node tree view to view your search results. Search results groups include the following:
InfoCubes
displays all InfoCubes that met the search criteria that you specified. The search results for InfoCubes display when you select the InfoCubes check box in the Search Metadata for String dialog box.
ODS Objects
displays all ODS Objects that met the search criteria that you specified. The search results for ODS Objects display when you select the ODS Objects check box in the Search Metadata for String dialog box.
InfoObjects
displays all InfoObjects that met the search criteria that you specified. The search results are grouped by InfoObjects when you select the InfoObjects check box in the Search Metadata for String dialog box. You can expand and collapse the InfoObjects in the tree view as needed to locate the desired InfoCubes and ODS tables that use those InfoObjects.
To select an InfoCube or ODS Object, highlight the desired object in the Search Results list and then click Select one table icon to move it to the Selected Sources list. You can also move the object to the Selected Sources list by double-clicking it.
Selected Sources tree
lists all tables that you have selected from the Search Results group box. To remove an ODS Object or InfoCube from the Selected Sources list, highlight the object in the Selected Sources list and then click Deselect one table icon. You can also double-click an InfoCube or ODS Object to remove it from the list.
The SAP BW Metadata Search page contains the following buttons:
Find text
searches all returned search results to locate the results that contain the text string that you entered in the Text String box.
Expand
enables you to expand all subnodes within a selected node in the Search Results group box or Selected Sources list.
SAP Metadata Search
displays the Metadata for String dialog box, which enables you to search the pre-extracted SAP BW metadata for a given text string. You can also limit the search to tables, entities, data models, and other filtering choices. This button enables you to perform multiple searches without removing any tables from the Selected Sources list.
Refine Search
displays the Search Metadata for String dialog box and enables you to refine your search by searching within the already returned search results.
Delete Node
enables you to delete the selected node from the list of search results.
Display data model
displays the ODS/InfoCube - Data Model dialog box; this feature enables you to view the dimensions and analysis variables that comprise the selected ODS or InfoCube object and enables you to view detailed information about the dimensions.
Display tables
displays the Tables for InfoCube dialog box; this feature enables you to view all tables that are associated with the InfoCube you selected.
Display info objects
displays the ODS/InfoCube - InfoObjects dialog box; this feature enables you to view all InfoObjects for the selected ODS or InfoCube object, as well as metadata about those InfoObjects.
Display table metadata
displays the Displaying Metadata for SAP Table dialog box; this feature enables you to view metadata such as the field name, field text, field format, and so on, for a selected table.
Display table contents
displays the Selected SAP Table dialog box; this feature enables you to view the data in the selected table.
Undo Last Move
enables you to undo your last action. For example, if you accidentally deleted a node, you can click this button to restore that node to the list of search results. However, you can undo only the last action that you performed.
