Optimization with the SAS System: What It Is, What's New, and Why You Should Be Using It

Abstract
This paper presents an introduction to optimization and an overview of SAS® capabilities in optimization,
with a focus on
mathematical optimization with SAS/OR® software. We review the current suite of optimization modules
and techniques
available in SAS/OR® software, highlighting recent additions. We discuss the value that optimization adds to business
intelligence, and we describe several recent cases in which optimization has played a central role in the
creation of SAS® decision support solutions.
