Problem Note 64841: Alert-evaluation tasks for rules that no longer exist exhaust the SAS® environment
The SAS® Visual Analytics Hyperlink Service, which evaluates conditions for alerts defined in SAS Visual Analytics reports, might create thousands of unclosed connections to the SAS® Metadata Server. As a result, no other application can log on or create new connections. Restarting SASServer12 or the SAS Metadata Server helps for a short period.
When this problem exists, the SAS Metadata Server log contains a high number of lines like this one:
INFO
[00249782] :sastrust@saspw - New client connection (CONNECTION_ID) accepted from
server port 8561 for user sastrust@saspw. Encryption level is Credentials using
encryption algorithm AES. Peer IP address and port are
[x.x.x.x]:52342 for APPNAME=Visual Analytics Hyperlink Service 7.5.
The log does not contain corresponding lines that indicate the CONNECTION_ID is closed.
This problem can occur when the user who created the alert is removed from the SAS Metadata Server. If you encounter this issue, contact SAS Technical Support for help with cleaning up the orphaned alerts.
