Installation Note 63736: You see an error about unwritable files on the Checking System page in SAS® Deployment Wizard
If you already installed SAS, and you start SAS Deployment Wizard to add SAS products or upgrade to a newer SAS maintenance release, an error about unwritable files might appear on the Checking System page. The file names that are listed in the error message are SAS files that are installed on the machine. Here is an example of the file names that might be listed:
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASVersionedJarRepository\eclipse\plugins\sas.launcher.jar
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasmsg\hps.msg
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\EnhancedEditor\SAS.EnhancedEditor.dll
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasmsg\hpstat.msg
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasmsg\host.msg
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasmsg\core.msg
- C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasmsg\base.msg
The file system error about unwritable files occurs because the listed files are in use or locked. Therefore, the current SAS installation process cannot replace them.
If the listed files include sasmono.ttf or sasmonob.ttf, then refer to SAS Note 55022, “When installing or uninstalling SAS® software, you might see a message about report fonts being unwritable.”
If the listed files are in the SASHOME\SASWebApplicationServer directory, refer to SAS Note 60332, “A SAS® 9.4 installation in Update mode notifies you about unwritable files in the ‘SASHome\SASWebApplicationServer’ directory.”
If any other files are listed, such as the files noted above, or if the problem persists after you follow instructions in the above SAS Notes, then take these steps:
- Reboot your machine. Log in with a user ID with local administrator rights.
- Go to the Search box and type Services.
- Select the item with just the word Services.
- Click the Name column heading so that the entries are alphabetized.
- Scroll down to the items that start with “SAS.”
- Right-click each SAS item and choose Stop.
- Make sure that all SAS applications, including SAS® Enterprise Guide®, are closed.
- Open Task Manager and click the Details tab. Click the Name column heading so that the entries are alphabetized.
- Search for the following tasks in order to end them (if needed):
SAS.EXE
SEGUIDE.EXE
- Either click the Refresh button on the SAS installation error message, or start the SAS installation again by going to the SAS Software Depot and right-clicking SETUP.EXE. Select Run as Admin to restart the installation process.
