Problem Note 60332: A SAS® 9.4 installation in Update mode notifies you about unwritable files in the "SASHome\SASWebApplicationServer" directory
When you run SAS® Deployment Wizard to install or update SAS 9.4 software, the file system is examined. If any files that the wizard needs to delete are found to be locked, they are reported as unwritable files. The following screenshot is an example of the Checking System page where multiple files are found to be unwritable:

The unwritable files in the screenshot example have the same root path of C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASWebApplicationServer\9.4\tomcat-7.0.55.A.RELEASE\lib\and file names, such as catalina-ant.jar tomcat-coyote.jar tomcat-api.jar annotations-api.jar and catalina-tribes.jar.
If the unwritable files have the same path and it is similar to the path above, the SAS Studio Spawner and the SAS Studio WebAppServer services are running. If these services are in a running state on the machine, they lock files that SAS Deployment Wizard needs to modify.
Resolution
To fix this issue, take these steps:
- Open Windows Services. To open Windows Services, go to the Search box, and type Services. Then double-click the application that contains just the word Services.
- After the application opens, click the Description column heading to sort alphabetically.
- Locate the service with the description SASStudioSpawner and stop the service.
- Locate the service with the description SASStudioWebAppServer and stop the service.
- Return to SAS Deployment Wizard and click Refresh at the bottom of the installation screen.
