Usage Note 53239: Generating thread dumps from SAS® Enterprise Miner(tm) client or workstation
While diagnosing issues with SAS Enterprise Miner client or workstation, it might be necessary to generate thread dumps from the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that runs the application. A thread dump is a snapshot of the JVM thread activity when the dump was collected. A series of thread dumps that are collected over a period of time can be used to display how threads are progressing over time. Understanding thread activity can be useful in any number of situations, including, but not limited to, performance, failure to respond, or high CPU.
Before thread dumps can be generated, SAS Enterprise Miner client or workstation must be launched using the command-line method that is described in the following SAS Note:
53089, "A command-line method for launching SAS
® Enterprise Miner™ client or workstation"
Once SAS Enterprise Miner has been launched using this command-line method, thread dumps can be generated by pressing Ctrl+Break (on the keyboard) while the Command Prompt window has focus. Each Ctrl+Break keystroke generates a thread dump that is written to the Command Prompt window:
Note: Not all keyboards include the 'Break' key. The 'Pause' key, if present, can be used in place of the 'Break' key. If neither the 'Break' nor 'Pause' keys are present, then the On-Screen Keyboard can be used. Select Start ► Search programs and files. Type osk.exe , then press Enter.
