When diagnosing issues that occur with SAS Enterprise Miner client or workstation, it might be necessary to launch the application using a command-line method. The command-line method is one alternative that simplifies the launch process by directly launching the Java application. This simplified process enables launch issues to be isolated and identified more quickly. The command-line method that follows also enables advanced diagnostics that are detailed in the following SAS Note:
At a high level, this alternative method requires three steps:
From the Start menu, locate the 'Search programs and files' text box. Type: cmd
In the results list above the text box, right-click the cmd.exe link/icon, and choose Run as administrator.
With an Administrator Command Prompt open, navigate to the product location. To begin this step, the product location must be identified:
<SASHome>\<product>\<version>\
Example: if you are attempting to launch SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation 13.1, then the product location is this:
<SASHome>\SASEnterpriseMinerWorkstationConfiguration\13.1\After you have identified the product location, execute the cd command within the Administrator Command Prompt using the identified location as an argument. Example:
cd "C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASEnterpriseMinerWorkstationConfiguration\13.1\"
With an Administrator Command Prompt opened at the product location, execute the appropriate Java command. The first task for this step is to identify the appropriate Java command. There are three different options provided here to determine the appropriate Java command. After you have determined the command, execute this command within the Administrator Command Prompt at the product location as illustrated below in order to launch SAS Enterprise Miner client or workstation:
The following sample commands are from basic installations that are deployed to default locations. For default installations and configurations, these commands can be used with little or no editing.
SAS Enterprise Miner workstation 13.1
With SAS Enterprise Miner client or workstation running, launch Microsoft Process Explorer (available for download: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx). Find the java.exe process that is associated with em.exe:
Right-click the process, and choose Properties. Within the Properties window, find the Command line:
The Command line displays the command that you need to execute from the product location within an Administrator Command prompt.
Using the em.ini file, and the sassw.config file, the Java command can be constructed. The default location for these files is displayed below:
<SASHome>\SASEnterpriseMiner*\<version>\em.ini <SASHome>\sassw.configUsing the values from these files, construct the command using this format:
<JREHOME> <JavaArgs_1> <JavaArgs_2> ... <JavaArgs_n> -cp <VJRHOME>\eclipse\plugins\sas.launcher.jar <MainClass>
