Usage Note 53746: Summary of geotargeting flights and creatives in SAS Intelligent Advertising
SAS® Intelligent Advertising for Publishers uses the IP address of the visitor to evaluate it against geographic (geo) data tied to IP addresses. The data is provided by the vendor Digital Element and is regularly updated with the latest information. This SAS Note provides information about the range of geo options available in SAS Intelligent Advertising for Publishers.
There are two methods for adding geotargeting to any flight in SAS Intelligent Advertising for Publishers:
- You can create geo-based targets in the target builder (Targeting ► Targets ► Add New Target) and save the newly created target for use in future campaigns.
- Or you can enter the required geotargeting values as tags associated with the flight. The geotargeting variables are usually located near the end of the left-value drop-down field in the target builder. They can also be added directly into a flight using the Geo Tags option under Tags in the Edit Flight window.
Geotargeting can be applied to any flight as part of a product setup directly in the Target section of the flight. It can also be applied to an individual creative in the Flight Creative Target that can be applied to any creatives in a flight. You can also use geotargeting in a tier's target.
Caution: Geotargeting is designed to restrict the delivery of any flight to users who are visiting from the locations in your target. Incorrectly applied geotargeting might cause your flight to under-deliver. Use geotargeting with caution.
To use the geotargeting city option, you simply type the required city name against the CITY tag variable and search for any matching city values. Because many city names are not unique, a city target should be paired with a country target to make certain the correct city is being targeted. Other geotargeting variables require the use of the correct geo code, which can be obtained from the SAS Note links below.
