Usage Note 48479: Connection is refused and socket errors occur when you are using the SAS® PC Files Server
When using the EXCELCS, ACCESSCS, or PCFILES engines with the SAS PC Files Server, you might receive the following error:
ERROR: A socket routine returned error: The connection was refused.
ERROR: Failed to connect to the Server: (servername).
NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.
The problem occurs for different reasons and is remedied in different ways:
- If the code has worked previously, reboot the machine on which the SAS PC Files Server resides. This often fixes the problem.
- The issue might be that a Windows firewall is blocking the port from the SAS PC Files Server itself. In this case, the system administrator must make a port available for the SAS PC Files Server.
- Similar errors can also be caused when the SAS PC Files Server and the SAS session are not at the same release level.
See SAS Note 42687: "Error Allocating CLI Environment and Socket Errors when using the PC Files Server."
